CBT For Anxiety Panic Symptoms
Severe panic symptoms are associated with a number of anxiety disorders such as social phobia and agoraphobia. Social anxiety is a condition where a person has extreme fears of social situations such as introducing themselves to a new class and even making a call to a stranger. Just thinking about having to perform in front of others can create intense symptoms of panic and anxiety.
In some cases this disorder is found to be caused by a genetic factor and might exist in several members in a family. Many experts believe that anyone can potentially develop social phobia. Children who are very timid and shy are at a higher risk as are children who are abused or bullied. Adults are still at risk of developing this disorder through learned negative habits.
Agoraphobia like social phobia, affects more women than it does men. Sufferers of agoraphobia are terrified of panic attacks occurring in public places. Busy places and environments where easy escape is not possible are often feared the most. Being at a group seminar, waiting at a bus stop and even going to the supermarket can trigger attacks.
This disorder sometime gets mistaken as social anxiety for obvious reasons. Doctors once believed that panic attacks were only associated with panic disorder. It has now been proven that some people who suffer panic attacks do not have panic disorder.
There is also a slight difference with panic attacks in those with panic disorder, in that they're unpredictable. Agoraphobes usually experience Panic Symptoms when they are confronted with their fear. At the beginning, symptoms may be slight such as hot flashes, tingling sensations and trembling.
When a full blown attack occurs, a sufferer might hyperventilate and experience derealization which is extremely distressing. Those with acute agoraphobia may not even be able to leave their homes. You can imagine how difficult life can be.
Day to day life is limited and it's no surprise how depressing and lonely it can be. Making a life, pursuing a career or having a relationship can seem like impossible tasks. Sufferers are at an increased risk of developing depression. Men who suffer from panic symptoms are much more likely to binge drink than women.
Although some anxiety disorders have only recently been discovered there is Anxiety Help available. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is being increasingly used over medicine. Exercise and diet can play an important role in recovery as well as other lifestyle adjustments. Practicing breathing techniques and self help techniques like EFT can accelerate recovery.
People who have agoraphobia might not be able to venture out and find help. This dilemma means that potentially thousands or millions are not treated. However, it's important to seek professional anxiety help for proper diagnosis and effective treatment. If you find it difficult to seek help alone, go with someone you know.
Behavioral therapy might include techniques to help you adjust to your fears over time. Old behaviors can be replaced by new positive ones this way. In addition, there are support groups available for people with various anxiety disorders. Talking about problems and giving support to others can often help with recovery. Alternatively there are forums and communities online for those who need support.
