DePuy's Recalled Hip Implants and the FDA

A second surgery was required to a lot of patients after using DePuy’s hip replacement implants. A few years after using the implants, this is what happened when the manufacturer guaranteed the implants to last up to fifteen years. This incident has affected around 93, 000 individuals that a DePuy hip recall happened. Although the recall came in quite late, it happened voluntarily.

The releasing of metals on the blood when using a metal implant is always possible but the metals released are much larger in this case. These metals released are carcinogens which can have long term effects in the body

The government actually regulates the product that is available in the market. The responsibility to check the product before giving it an approval that it is okay for the public to buy is tasked on the Food and Drug Administration. This approval can happen after a series of trial to test for the quality of the product. If the trial assures that there are no dangers when an individual uses the product, it can easily get through the market.
