Effective Body Hair Removal Methods
Shaving: Shaving is the most common method of removing hair. Hair is shaved using razors or clippers. With shaving, the hair is cut close to the skin and the root is left under the skin. This is why hair grows easily after shaving. The effect of shaving lasts between 1 to 2 days. Men often shave their facial hair while women use shaving to remove hair from their armpits, legs and bikini lines. Shaving is an inexpensive method of hair removal.
Plucking: This method is only recommended for small areas of the body because it involves a little pain. It is commonly used for pulling stray eyebrow hair. The effect of plucking can last up to six weeks because the hair is pulled with the roots. Plucking is done with a pair of tweezers.
Waxing: Waxing is a popular body hair removal method because it can be used to remove hair from big areas of skin. Men use this method to remove hair from their backs while women often use it to remove leg hair. It can also be used to remove hair from the armpits and the bikini area. The effect of waxing can last several weeks because the hairs are pulled with the roots. Waxing can be done at home with commercially available waxing kits or in a clinic or center by a licensed cosmetologist. In this procedure, wax is applied on the skin and allowed to dry or harden. The hardened wax is then pulled off and the hair comes off with it. This method is great because it leaves the skin smooth because aside from the hair, dead skin also sticks to the wax. The problem with waxing is it can sting. The pain is not long-lasting and people who have undergone the procedure more than once get used to the pain.
Depilatories: Depilatories are chemicals that break down the Keratin in the hair so that they become weak. Depilatories come in cream or lotion form. They are applied on the skin where the hair will be removed and left on for a few minutes. The important thing with this method is to follow the instructions printed on the packaging of the product. Depilatories can cause skin irritation and damage when left on too long because skin also contains Keratin. The goal is to leave the product on long enough to damage the hair but not too long so as to cause damage to skin. The effect of depilatories last between 3 days to 2 weeks just like shaving.
