Unwanted Hair? Have you tried laser hair removal treatment?

“Never trust a woman with a moustache,” You probably heard that before. Although mostly said in jest, it still is rude and insensitive.  This can be a source of insecurity for women with more than a superfluous endowment of hair on their face. A visit to a reputable physician familiar with laser hair removal system may just be what is needed.

When a woman have darker, coarser hair in places she doesn’t like or expect like on the face, underarms, arms, legs (sometimes even in abdomens and breasts), a trip to the “strictly swimsuits only” resorts would pose a problem.  It may even prevent her from wearing certain types of gowns with plunging necklines, shorts, or even short skirts.

Constant shaving, waxing, or plucking could be too irritating and tiresome, and hair would only return days later.  Laser hair removal system may be the option for long term results. Although it never guarantees permanent hair removal, areas of the body treated with laser can go hair-free for several months or even years. Multiple treatments could make long-term hair removal possible. The area of the body the patient wants treated, dictates the frequency of treatments required for optimal long-term benefits. When necessary, treatments with the laser hair removal system are repeated at six to eight week intervals.

The practice of laser hair removal system have been around since 1997 and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved it for “permanent reduction.” However, laser removal doesn’t work in exactly the same way for everyone, and it doesn’t totally remove the hair in an area as fine and sparsely spaced hair are difficult for the laser to hit. Some people who want a 100% hair-free result opt to follow-up the treatment with electrolysis.

A treatment with laser hair removal system is a quick and simple procedure. It is almost painless except for some stinging sensation when the laser is turned on. The laser light passes through your skin’s surface to hit the hair follicles where the intense heat damages them. One need not worry about this “intense heat,” laser hair removal system is selective photothermolysis. It means that laser is attracted to dark pigments thus causing localized damage to the hair follicles by selectively heating these dark targets while not heating the rest of the skin. After the treatment, no bandages or medications are necessary. It’s more like having a facial massage with laser treatment at your nearby derma clinic, except that some may notice redness and swelling for the first few hours. Otherwise, most may get back to work as if nothing happened. There are restrictions, though, like avoiding exercise for the first 24 hours and avoiding direct exposure to sunlight for weeks without applying some sunscreen.

For many decades, many women and men have to deal with unwanted hair as a nuisance, or a source of insecurity. Removing it was uncomfortable and/or expensive. With remarkable advances in laser technology, this is no longer the case. Laser hair removal system is safe, convenient and affordable.
